TARRANT COUNTY A grass fire forced officials to close Rocky Creek Park Sunday afternoon.

Firefighters from multiple agencies including Fort Worth, Benbrook and Crowley joined forces to battle the blaze in far southwest Tarrant County on the eastern shore of Benbrook Lake.

The fire did not pose an immediate threat to any homes, and are no injuries were reported.

Smoke from the fire could be seen for miles around. WFAA meteorologist Steve McCauley said wind gusts up to 35 mph did not help the situation.

"Conditions are very favorable for grass fires across North Texas," he said. "The smoke is thick enough that it's actually showing up on the radar screens on the west side of Fort Worth."

McCauley said low humidity levels only added to the fire danger, but he said that should be reduced later Sunday night as patchy drizzle moves into North Texas.
