DALLAS -- The Dallas County health department confirmed the first pediatric flu-related death this season on Tuesday.

Dallas County Health and Human Services (DCHHS) said the victim was eight years old. The death was reported by a hospital in Dallas County.

No further identifying information will be released.

The flu vaccine is recommended for almost everyone except children younger than 6 months of age, according to the Centers for Disease Control.

The vaccine is available free for adult and children in the immunizations clinics on the first floor of the DCHHS building at 2377 N. Stemmons Freeway in Dallas. The adult and children immunization clinics are open from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Friday. Call 214-819-2162 for vaccine availability.
