MESQUITE There were no reports of injuries after a chemical explosion Saturday morning at a Fritz Industries research facility in Mesquite.

Mesquite Fire Department spokesman Capt. Jeff Miller said two janitorial workers were in the building at 2900 Executive Boulevard when they heard what was described as a 'popping'sound at 7 a.m.

The employees went outside and called for help.

Miller said firefighters battled what he characterized as a 'small' fire from outside the facility and it was quickly brought under control.

'Damage to the facility was confined to the lab area and will not impact our other operations,' the company said in a written statement.

Miller said Fritz officials were working to determine what chemicals were involved.

According to its website, Fritz manufactures chemicals to support oilfield operations, aquariums, and specialty products.
