DALLAS - Thirteen-thousand North Texas elementary and middle school students are in after school programs everyday. News 8 is highlighting those programs and how they're changing the lives of children in our communities.
Children in one West Dallas after school program count on Gloria Lopez. She is the program director and tutors students in the Believe and Achieve program at Trinity River Mission, which takes graduation pictures and turns them into something inspirational.
Lopez began attending Trinity River Mission herself as a first grader in 1985. She went through the whole program, graduated and earned a degree.
Now, one of the biggest honors for kids in the program these days is to have their graduation picture hanging in the hallway, just like Lopez.
They love the Wall of Honor, she said.
