LEWISVILLE LAKE Rescue teams working for hours lifted a pickup truck from the icy waters of Lewisville lake Saturday morning.
The woman driving the truck was found dead inside the cab. No identity was released.
Witnesses said the victim's truck hit a patch of ice and then crashed over a guardrail from the slick northbound lanes of Interstate 35E after 3:30 a.m. Saturday.
The Lewisville Fire Department employed sonar and a crane to locate the wreckage and to lift it out of the water after being submerged for around four hours.
'It took them a little bit to get down there,' said Department of Public Safety Trooper Lonny Haschel. 'When you're dealing with 17-degree temperatures, they had to get dry suits, get down there, get in the water, hook it up, and then get it lifted out.'
That crash was just one of dozens along icy Interstate 35E. In Lewisville alone, police said they responded to 60 accidents between 6 a.m. and 2 p.m. Saturday, some of them serious.
