MELISSA It has been more than two weeks since Nicole Leger was found dead by her 17-year-old son at their rented home in Melissa.

Officers are still investigating the Collin County city's first murder in decades. Many officers said they couldn't recall the last homicide in this community seven miles northeast of McKinney.

Meanwhile, family members are still waiting for any updates from Melissa Police on arrests or suspects.

'I'm sure police are working diligently,' said Leger's father, Gary Cox. 'It's a little scary that he's still out there walking around.'

A distraught Cox talked with News 8 from his office in Florida. He's already dealing with the death of another daughter earlier in the year.

A good friend of Leger is in complete shock. She did not want her identity revealed for her own safety. She said Leger, 34, had just been accepted to nursing school and was excited about starting a new career.

'The sweetest person in the world. Great mother. She lived her life for her son,' said her friend.

Family and friends are hoping police turn over every stone; even the stone that describes Leger's last boyfriend.

Her friend said it was an on-and-off relationship that turned very sour.

The Denton County DA's office confirms to us that Leger was also a victim in an aggravated sexual assault in Denton County that occurred in March. Since that attack, friends tell News 8 that two protective orders were issued against the boyfriend.

'I knew she was afraid. I knew she was scared,' said her friend.

Melissa Police made no comment as to whether the ex-boyfriend is a suspect or a person of interest in the Nicole Leger case. Our calls and e-mails to Melissa police on Wednesday were not returned.

'There's a murderer in Texas, and a 34-year-old gets taken away from her family and her son,' Cox said.

Friends and family are now raising money to help Nicole Leger's son Trey pay for college. An account has been established and is accepting donations at this address:
