DALLAS Police in Dallas have arrested a suspect in the rape of a Lake Highlands woman on Oct. 30, 2013.

Investigators said DNA obtained during the investigation of the assault linked 25-year-old Jasmine Jamiel Simmons to the assault.

According to police, the victim was asleep in her apartment, located in the 10900 block of Audelia Road, when a man broke into the residence. The victim told police the intruder pinned her down, taped her mouth and bound her wrists before sexually assaulting her.

After evidence and DNA linked Simmons to the crime, investigators talked with the victim on April 4. Police said she told investigators she didn't know Simmons, didn't allow him into her home the night of the assault and didn't consent to sex.

'At this time, Simmons is not a suspect in any additional reported sexual assaults,' said Sherri Jeffrey, a spokeswoman with the Dallas Police Department.

U.S. Marshals and the CRT Squads assisted Dallas police in the arrest of Simmons on April 8. He was booked at the Dallas County Jail, where his bail was set at $250,000.
