DALLAS -- Police said Friday night authorities have increased security at all NCAA event venues and locations after pyrotechnics for the weekend's March Madness Music Festival in downtown Dallas went missing.

The changes mean new restrictions for fans, including a requirement for clear tote bags at the music festival and the Bracket Town event at the Dallas Convention Center.

Dallas police Lt. Max Geron said workers with the company contracted to provide fireworks for the music festival concerts reported Friday that a 'quantity of pyrotechnics' were missing from the staging area on the parking garage of the Houston Street viaduct.

'[C]ontractors have undertaken a review of all inventory to verify quantities. This inventory process is currently in progress,' Geron said in a media release. 'Detectives are working alongside contractors in this process.'

He went on to say police were investigating the circumstances surrounding the missing fireworks and the scene where they went missing.

Geron said as a precaution authorities have taken steps to increase security at all NCAA event venues and locations across North Texas in response.

One change is adding a 'clear bag' policy for the March Madness Music Festival and Bracket Town events in downtown Dallas.

'Only small clutch purses, clear totes, plastic re-sealable storage bags or NCAA-provided clear bags will be allowed,' Dallas police said in a written statement. 'Backpacks, large purses, camera bags, computer bags and luggage of any kind are not allowed.'

The NCAA is providing clear bags that meet the requirements at official NCAA hotels and at the events.

'Additional Dallas Fire-Rescue elements have been added to the Dallas venues as a precautionary measure and canines capable of detecting pyrotechnic material are conducting sweeps of multiple locations,' Geron said.
