Construction may have played a role in a multi-car accident on a West Dallas freeway early Sunday morning.

One person was killed and several others were injured in the 2 a.m. wreck in the westbound lanes of Interstate 30 near Cockrell Hill Road.

Some lanes are narrowed along this stretch of the highway due to construction.

The names of the victims have not been released. Police shut down the freeway to conduct an investigation.

There was another serious multiple-vehicle accident in Arlington about two hours later.

Police said there were no fatal injuries in the crash in the eastbound lanes of Interstate 20 near Bowman Springs Road, but one child was taken to Cook Children's Medical Center in Fort Worth as a precaution.
