IRVING Police in Irving opened fire on a domestic violence suspect in Irving Wednesday night after he took aim at officers.

Christopher Sneed, a witness to the shooting,described hearing six gunshots as the chase ended around 7:45 p.m. when police laid down spike strips in the 600 block of Balleywood Road, two blocks south of Irving Boulevard.

I heard, 'Get your hands up! Get your hands up!' And I just ducked, because I heard gunshots, Sneed said. I was just trying to get down so I didn't get hit.

Police said the man, driving a silver Chevy Tahoe SUV, had threatened family members in Irving with a firearm earlier in the evening.

As investigators were at that scene taking the domestic violencereport,officers located the vehicle wanted in the investigation in the 1300 block of East Pioneer Parkway.

Police said they pursued it a short distance before the suspect pulled into a driveway on Balleywood, exited the vehicle with a rifle, and opened fire on officers.

Irving police said two officers returned fire, shooting the driver multiple times. The driver wastaken to Parkland Memorial Hospital in Dallas in critical condition. His identity was not given.

No police officers were injured, Irving officials said.

Dozens of police officers and detectives sealed off the shooting scene to conduct an investigation which appeared likely to last late into the night.
