ARLINGTON - A 27-year-old man was arrested early Thursday morning in the death of a Kennedale junior high school teacher who was found murdered inside his vehicle at about 2 a.m. Monday.

According to a statement released by Arlington police, Patrick Jardell Brooks, 27, was arrested at his Arlington home and booked at the Arlington City Jail on a murder charge. His bail was set at $100,000.

Text messages between Brooks and the victim, 27-year-old John Shreves, and surveillance video from the parking lot where the teacher's body was found linked Brooks to the crime, the statement read.

Based on the evidence, authorities said they were able to determine Brooks was likely a passenger inside Shreves' vehicle when it arrived to the crime location.

In a WFAA report Tuesday, the principal of Kennedale Junior High, Sherri Kottwitz, said Shreves was a favorite among students and voted by seventh and eighth-grade students the most likely to make you laugh.

Shreves taught English at the school for three years.
