DALLAS - The Dallas Independent School District Board of Trustees is expected to vote tonight on two emotional and controversial issues: school closings and extending teacher's work day without increasing their pay.
Parents stood outside the administration building holding signs in an effort to persuade the board to leave eleven elementary schools open. Two of those schools are exemplary. Four are considered recognized.
The vote is expected to be close.
I can see the injustice to our kids, said Raul Farias, a DISD teacher. I can see the injustice to our teachers. They're only concerned about themselves.
Alliance-AFT, a teachers union, staged a protest outside the DISD Administration Building. They are upset their workday would be extended by 45 minutes without a pay increase. They claim the proposal came without any communication or input from employees.
