ARLINGTON -- Texas Rangers manager Ron Washington got a vote of confidence from the team's general manager, Jon Daniels, Thursday.

Next season is the last on Washington's current contract, but he should get a new deal soon.

'I've been as supportive as anybody,' Daniels said. 'We're going to handle that behind the scenes. Wash and I haven't talked about it yet, I haven't talked to ownership about it yet, just because there was so much going on, but I feel just as strong about Wash as I ever have.'

That's not the case for Washington's bench coach Jackie Moore, the man Washington hugged after every win, or first base coach Dave Anderson. The team chose not to renew either coach's contract.

'I'm going to miss Jackie,' Washington said. 'But in this business, things like that happen, and you've got to move forward. I'm going to miss Dave. As an organization, we just felt like we needed to go in another direction.'

We also learned more about pitcher Yu Darvish Thursday and why he struggled down the stretch. It turns out he's been fighting a lower back issue since August.

'Yeah, he had a nerve issue in his lower back that caused him to lose strength after a period of time in his right leg,' Daniels said. 'He wasn't as powerful as he wanted to be after being out there for an extended period. He got an injection yesterday that we're hopeful will resolve that issue. He chose not to have - collectively we were all on board with the decision - but he didn't want the injection earlier. I think it started bothering him in August.'

Daniels may meet with free agent outfielder Nelson Cruz as early as next week, at which time the Rangers are expected to make a qualifying offer. That way, if he signs somewhere else, the Rangers would get a first round draft pick as compensation.
