One of Julian Castro's biggest acts as mayor of San Antonio was staying on the job after declining a previous offer to join President Obama's cabinet.

This time around, reports are that the third-term chief executive in the Alamo City would be receptive if asked by the president to head up the Department of Housing and Urban Development.

When previously questioned about such high appointments, Castro downplayed the speculation. 'I don't know if that's going to happen,' he said. 'It's very flattering, but I don't presume it's going to happen.'

Despite his humble public persona, Mayor Castro's star has been rising fast.

Chosen by Obama to deliver the keynote address at the 2012 Democratic National Convention, Castro's name has also been mentioned as a potential vice presidential pick in 2016.
