The Houston Astros announced Tuesday that Baseball Hall-of-Famer Nolan Ryan has been named the club's new executive advisor.

Ryan is teaming up with his son and Astros president Reid Ryan.

Nolan Ryan retired as president and CEO of the Texas Rangers last fall. During his stewardship, the Rangers went to the World Series two times. Ryan also pitched for the Rangers during his illustrious playing career.

Nolan Ryan also pitched for Houston.

'I'm very excited to be back with the Astros,' Ryan said in a written statement. 'The Astros have a solid foundation with a strong farm system. I think the future is bright for Houston, and I'm looking forward to my involvement.'

Ryan has previously served as special assistant to the general manager for Houston after retiring as a player in 1993.

The Astros moved to the American League last year in direct competition with the Rangers.
