HOUSTON - Houston police said a man was taken into custody the hard way after he crashed his SUV and was bitten by a police dog on the west side of Houston.

According to officers with the Houston Police Department, the man was driving his Mitsubishi northbound on Highway 6 when he ran a red light near Westheimer.

An officer tried to stop the suspect, but the man allegedly kept on going. He eventually crashed into a ditch and ran into a nearby neighborhood, police said.

After an hour-long search, a police dog tracked down the suspect and bit him. He then gave himself up.

Police said the suspect, bleeding from the dog bite, was taken into custody.

HPD believes the man ran because he was intoxicated. He now faces charges of felony evading and driving while intoxicated.
