DALLAS - More than six weeks after burglars stole him, Dallas police have reunited a Schnauzer with his owners.
Our detectives, Lee Bollinger and his partner, found him and brought him to our apartment tonight!, said Paul Thomas.
The Schnauzer, named Gimli, was snatched in his crate along with more than $7,000 in electronics and belongings from Paul and Cynthia Thomas' Dallas apartment in October.
He is in great shape and very healthy, Thomas said. After our story aired on WFAA, we got a tip from someone that led police to where the dog was being held.
We are playing with him right now and overjoyed to have him back. Truly, it's the best Christmas present ever.
No arrests have been made, the Thomases said, as police gather moreevidence.
The American Kennel Club and other animals groups have noted an alarming rise in pet thefts in recent months.
The animals are either sold, held for ransom and are often used as bait to train fighting dogs, said Skip Trimble, Texas Humane Legislation Network.
