DALLAS A national poll being conducted on our web site is trying to find the best boys high school athletic program in the country.
It's a broad-based survey where students, facility members, and even coaches can vote for their own team.
The list includes Argyle, Allen, Highland Park and Southlake Carroll high schools in North Texas.
Highland Park's football program lost in the regional semifinal round last year, and their tennis team hasn't lost a match since 2008.
'Well, it says that we've got a great sports program, and we've had success over a long period of time,' said Highland Park's head football coach Randy Allen. 'We've been very consistent. We've got a lot of state championships at Highland Park in a lot of different sports.'
Argyle is on the list because of its state championship in football. They were runner-ups in golf and baseball last season as well.
'We do pretty well on both sides of the ball, both programs our males and our females,' said Todd Rogers, Argyle's athletic director and head football coach. 'It's good stuff for our community.'
Southlake Carroll is always a powerhouse. They won a cross-country title and even had two golf teams finish among the top four at State.
'Any time you can get fans excited and generate enthusiasm for a community, its great stuff,' said Southlake head football coach Hal Wasson.
Allen is known for its back-to-back state titles in football. Their basketball team made it to the Final Four, and their wrestling team has won five titles in a row.
'I think our fans and our kids have a lot of fun trying to outdo the other schools' votes,' said Allen's assistant athletic director and head football coach Tom Westerberg. 'With a school as big as we are, maybe we can stay at the top of the voting list.'
