Two people were killed and five others were injured Sunday evening when a car driving on the wrong side of the highway plowed into a group of motorcycles near the Wise-Denton County line.
Texas Highway Patrol spokesman Sgt. Lonny Haschel said the accident happened around 5:45 p.m. on FM 51, three miles north of FM 455.
Three motorcycles were headed north on the two-lane road approaching the crest of a hill when a southbound Toyota Yaris veered over the center line and hit two of the three bikes.
The driver of one motorcycle, 53-year-old Thomas Garcia of Ardmore, Oklahoma, was pronounced dead at the scene. His passenger, 33-year-old Cassier Turner, also of Ardmore, was transported to a hospital where she was later pronounced dead. Two others on a second bike were also injured.
The female driver of the Toyota and two passengers another adult and a 6-year-old were hospitalized. They were listed in stable condition Monday. The three are from Weatherford, west of Fort Worth.
The third motorcycle, which was behind the first two, was able to take evasive action and avoid impact, Haschel said, adding that the cause of the crash was under investigation.
