FORTWORTH - Authorities in Tarrant County said a deputy fatally shot a man wanted for unpaid child support after the suspect pulled a gun on the deputy at a Fort Worth apartment complex Thursday night.

In a statement released Friday morning, Constable Clint C. Burgess said the shooting occured at about 8:30 p.m. as Deputy Constable Chris Salone and an investigator from the State Attorney General's Office attempted to serve an arrest warrant for the unnamed suspect.

The suspect allegedly pulled a gun from the waistband of his pants and began pointing it at Burgess, who shot the man in the chest. The suspect was pronounced dead at the scene.

"Deputy Salone made a split second decision that most likely saved his life," Burgess said.

According to the statement, authorities found a loaded 9mm Hi-Point handgun on the suspect.

The Fort Worth Police Department's Major Crime Unit is investigating the case.
