Q: I was watching the 6 p.m. news and saw the segment on President Kennedy. I noticed a live shot of the vehicles traveling from the triple-underpass toward downtown Dallas. I am 76-years old and cannot remember when traffic traveled toward town on Elm Street. The cars appear to be in the late 40's to early 50's. Can you tell me what years Elm street traffic traveled east? Just wondering.

A: Thank you for the email,David. We believe it was in the 1950s. I am told the link below may help explain. Let us know if you need more or different information?
(Editor s Note: We heard from David again. He wrote: Thank you for your quick response. I thought those cars appeared to be late 40's or early 50's. It is interesting to see by the enlarged picture you sent that Elm Street was actually two-way based on the one car in the picture you can see going west. My wife and I graduated from Sunset High in 1957 so you would think we could remember but neither of us do, but we did not get around like the kids today do. Came into Dallas by bus and street car to go to the fair. That is about it. Again thank you very much. It's nice remembering back sometimes to a slower simpler world. )
