GRAND PRAIRIE- An exemplary rated Grand Prairie elementary school that officials considered closing because of budget troubles will stay open.

News 8 first reported that Garner Elementary School was on the chopping block two weeks ago.

Grand Prairie ISD officials now report that 151 teachers will retire or leave the district next year.

That change has saved the district $4.5 million. Official said the saving is more than enough to keep the doors open at Garner Elementary.
