Today's Our Neighbor is a safe haven for North Texans affected by HIV/Aids.
Welcome House, Inc. is a non-profit organization founded 44 years ago by Executive Director Don Johnson.
Located in South Dallas, the organization calls itself a first for serving African Americans.
Since 1966, thousands of individuals have been provided services through its programs.
Welcome House has five locations and provides housing, transitional services, substance abuse and case management for people diagnosed with HIV/Aids, whether you can afford it or not.
The non-profit relies on state funding and donations to stay alive. It's love, understanding, appreciation for what God has given to a person like myself who works in and through me. A loving staff that supports the individual who comes to us, said Johnson.
Saying thank you can't express my gratitude. The only way to express it is to remain sober and to continue in my growth, said client Kevin Vencill.
Vencill was diagnosed with HIV in 1992. He was homeless for a year and doing drugs every day until he got help from the Welcome House.
That's why we name them today's Our Neighbor.
