IRVING A fiery explosion destroyed a mobile home in Irving Friday night, injuring one person.
It happened around 7 p.m. at the Evening Shadows Mobile Home Park in the 400 block of Katherine Circle.
Neighbors immediately knew something was wrong.
They had heard a very loud explosion, said Irving Fire Department Assistant Chief Rusty Wilson. They did see the victim outside the home and there was fire in the home.
The trailer home was blown apart by the force of the explosion.
The injured man was taken to Parkland Memorial Hospital in Dallas for treatment. His name and condition were not available late Friday night.
There was a natural gas hookup at the trailer, and workers from Atmos Energy were in the neighborhood trying to determine if that was the source of the explosion.
Irving police blocked off the street, and the investigation was expected to continue through the night.
While the cause of this explosion was still undetermined, News 8 has reported on a series of explosions in North Texas that were caused by faulty natural gas pipeline couplings buried underground. The investigative reports over a time span of nearly four years led to a decision by Atmos Energy to replace hundreds of thousands of the connections in the region.
