Julie & Julia
Julie & Julia is a delightful, thoughtful, well-made film about two women and their connection to food and each other.
The legendary Julia Child is played Oscar-caliber in the 1960s by Meryl Streep. Writer-blogger, Julie Powell, who attempted in the 90s to make all of Child's 524 French recipes in one calendar year, is played by Amy Adams.
As a food movie, Julie & Julia hits the culinary bull's eye. It's not only buttery and rich but it understands the art and value of accomplished cooking. As an emotional journey about women and the husbands who love them, it's an insightful, rewarding experience.
Julie & Julia is rated PG-13 and is written and directed by Nora Ephron - this is her best film in years.
Julia Child changed the landscape of home cooking in this country and every moment Meryl Streep is on camera, it's a testament to her skill as an actress and to Julia Child as a cook. If you love the culinary arts, and I do, Julie & Julia is a wonderful cinematic meal.
