GREENVILLE A Hunt County judge who was at the center of a News 8 investigation has resigned.

Judge Steve Tittle resided over the 196th District Court of Greenville, located east of Dallas.

In a joint news release on Friday, Hunt County attorney Joel Littlefield and District Attorney Noble Walker revealed that Tittle was also the subject of a criminal investigation.

During his stormy tenure, Tittle threatened to duct tape the mouth of a female prosecutor in court and cut off tens of thousands of dollars of funds to the Hunt County probation department after an associate of his who worked there was fired.

Tittle ran for re-election this spring but wasn't returned to the bench. He could have served out his term, which ends in December, but resigned Friday.

In a letter to Gov. Rick Perry, Tittle wrote that he is 'pursuing another endeavor to serve this State.'
