Some North Texans got wet on the first day of the Memorial Day weekend.

The National Weather Service said scattered showers and storms spread north across the region on Saturday afternoon. The primary threats included very heavy rainfall and lightning.

The reporting station at Dallas Love Field measured a 41 mph wind gust at 4:34 p.m. as a storm moved over the airport. At the same time, 40 to 45 mph winds were indicated by radar between Farmers Branch and Irving.

At 5:12 p.m., the weather service said 30 to 40 mph winds were likely spreading through Collin County.

"Nothing severe... just much-needed rain," tweeted WFAA meteorologist Steve McCauley.
