A hit-and-run driver fleeing the scene drove into the rear of an 18 wheeler near the Belt Line exit of Interstate 30, causing her Nissan to get stuck and crushed by the large truck, police say.
Irving PD: Woman dies fleeing hit-and-run accident
The driver, who has not been identified, was taken to Parkland Memorial Hospital where she died. The accident occurred at about 1:30 a.m., said John Argumaniz, Irving Police Department spokesman.
The driver struck a minivan along I-30 in Grand Prairie and fled. She eventually exited the freeway at Belt Line Road at a high rate of speed, Argumaniz said. At the time, a FedEx 18 wheeler was turning into the parking lot of a trucking company when the woman drove into it.
Argumaniz said the vehicle was dragged a short distance. Investigators believe speed was a factor the top of the Nissan was smashed in.
Irving police are seeing whether the Nissan's headlights were on at the time of the accident. The driver of the minivan from the initial hit-and-run tried to follow the woman but wasn't close enough to see the wreck, Argumaniz said.
