American Airlines flight attendants are ramping up their opposition to the Transportation Security Administration's policy shift that will let passengers carry some knives on aircraft.

The Association of Professional Flight Attendants and another union representing about 90,000 flight attendants are urging the White House to make the TSA reverse its decision.

Hijackers stabbed flight attendants when they commandeered four jets including two American Airlines aircraft in the September 11, 2001 terrorist attacks that killed nearly 3,000 people.

The proposed changes to the TSA's "permitted items list" are scheduled to go into effect on April 25.
