BEDFORD Rush hour traffic was was stymied Wednesday afternoon after a construction crew ruptured a six-inch natural gas line.

All westbound lanes of Highway 183 were diverted ahead of the broken pipe at Bedford Road, triggering a backup that stretched for miles.

The gas supply was shut off around 5:15 p.m., and the freeway was reopened about five minutes later, but delays were expected to continue. Motorists were advised to find alternate routes for the rest of the Wednesday evening rush hour.

This incident follows Friday's leak of a four-inch gas main in Lewisville that led to a fatal explosion.
