DeSOTO A school board meeting to determine the future of DeSoto ISD Superintendent Kathy Augustine ended abruptly Monday night.
Trustees all took off and went home in a confusing finish to the meeting which was expected to determine Augustine's fate.
She was suspended just one day after accepting the DeSoto position after a cheating scandal emerged in the Atlanta, Georgia school system where Augustine previously worked.
It was expected that board members in DeSoto would vote on whether Augustine should remain as the district's superintendent. But only four of the seven trustees showed up for Monday's meeting.
Even though four trustees would constitute a quorum, board president Warren Seay Jr. hinted that it was an insufficient attendance to make a decision.
Look, guys... the board is doing its diligence. We have a seven-member board; there were only four members tonight. We're pressing forward. We're moving on. And we're working toward a quick resolution, Seay said.
Over the last few weeks, the board president has said that its operations should remain transparent about working with the community on this controversial issue.
That's why it's even more confusing that the DeSoto ISD declined to clarify Augustine's status. Is she still employed? Still suspended? There were no answers on Monday night.
