DALLAS Philadelphia Eagles quarterback Michael Vick is the only convicted felon to receive a key to the City of Dallas in recent history.
News 8 pulled the names of all the recipients over the past few years, but Mayor Pro Tem Dwaine Caraway said he's not asking for the key back.
A video of the ceremony shows Caraway gushing as he presented Vick with the key last week.
Mike, let me say this: You've had your ups and downs, Caraway said. I would like to personally present to Michael Vick the key to the City of Dallas, Texas. You've earned it, and we love you.
News 8 has learned about other Key to the City recipients , including those Caraway has honored.
The mayor pro tem has given more keys than any of his City Council counterparts, including one to Bill Cosby, and others to actors Vivica Fox and Debbie Allen.
Councilman Tennell Atkins has presented only one key, to Regina Taylor for the opening of a play.
Council member Pauline Medrano gave two keys to the team captains in a soccer match.
And Steve Salazar gave keys to five people, including Olympic boxer Luiz Yanez, KISS singer Gene Simmons, and the ambassador of Bangladesh.
Caraway told News 8 on Tuesday he has no plans to ask Vick to return his key to Dallas.
Always use good judgment; always make the right decision, the Eagles quarterback said at last week's ceremony; a good message to children from a man who's judgment has been in question.
Vick's speech lasted about two minutes, but this controversy will last much longer.
Caraway said he will not talk about this issue at Wednesday's City Council meeting.
