DALLAS As temperatures once again approached the century mark on Sunday, Dallas County workers were busy installing air conditioners for people in need.
About 80 units were set up on Saturday. Health and Human Services Department Director Zach Thompson personally helped with the distribution of another 80 air conditioners on Sunday.
The county's Heat Hotline is averaging about 100 calls a day. The hotline 214-819-6001 helps low-income, elderly and disabled Dallas County residents who have no working air conditioner.
The health department can also provide help for those who do have air conditioning to pay utility bills.
We know utility bills are high, but it's important to your health to have them on, said DCHHS Medical Director Dr. John Carlo in a written statement. Heat-related illnesses are 100 percent preventable.
