DALLAS Dallas police say a man was shot and killed in a parking lot behind the Grand Hotel on LBJFreeway late Wednesday night.

The man has been identified as 52-year-old Terence Groessel.

The incident happened just after 11:30 p.m. Officers patrolling the area believed a truck parked with the engine running may have been stolen, so they approached the vehicle.

Groessel was inside and apparently showed the officers a handgun, so the officers fired their weapons. Groessel was pronounced dead at the scene.

It is unclear whether he was killed by the officers' shots or his own.

Police said no officers were injured. Investigators were getting statements from witnesses before releasing any additional details.

They are also reviewing a car camera which captured the event, as well as other video from the area that may have been recording.

This is the third deadly officer-involved shooting in two weeks.
