Pepper is a six-month-old female Shepherd mix who was surrendered by its owner to the SPCA of Texas.

She's a sweet, energetic puppy who loves treats and toys and going on walks. She's learning how to sit and would be a perfect fit for any family, big or small.

You can meet Pepper or any of the other dogs and cats available for adoption at the SPCA's Jan Rees-Jones Animal Care Center at 2400 Lone Star Drive in Dallas. Call 214-742-7722 for more information.

The SPCA of Texas is partnering with several shelters for Empty the Shelter Day on Saturday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. (noon to 6 p.m. at SPCA shelters).

Pet adoption fees at participating shelters representing 81 percent of North Texas will be waived. This is the largest adoption effort ever held in North Texas, and what the partners hope to be the largest multi-city, multi-county adoption event in the United States.

Approximately 5,000 adoptable pets will be available for adoption at 33 North Texas-area shelters in the seven hour period. Other fees and participating shelter times may vary.
