FORTWORTH-- It took dozens of firefighters to knock down a massive fire near the Stockyards in Fort Worth Tuesday night.
Investigators say someone might have been inside the old Hoover Furniture Store, located at 406 W. Central Avenue, when the fire started around 10 p.m., but intense flames made it impossible to check.
The Fort Worth Fire Department says crews showed up to find heavy flames coming from the two-story building. As they tried to find the person inside, the structure began to fall apart so they had to retreat and fight the fire from outside.
Thirty units and 87 firefighters worked to put out the flames, getting it under control around 11:30 p.m.
The store has been closed for several years. Neighbors say they've seen homeless people staying there.
The cause of the fire is under investigation. No injuries have been reported at this time.
