HARRIS COUNTY, Texas A standoff ended after a bank robbery suspect was shot by deputies Sunday afternoon in northwest Houston.
According to the Harris County Sheriff's Office, deputies responded to an aggravated robbery at the Woodforest Bank located in the 12500 block of FM 1960.
Deputies tracked down the suspect to a second location in the 13400 block of West Road. That is when HCSO's High Risk Operations Unit and Hostage Negotiating Teams were called to the scene.
'He became more and more belligerent and agitated,' said Deputy Thomas Gilliland.
Deputies said they were unsuccessful in their attempts to negotiate the suspect's surrender and less lethal weapons were not working. The suspect began firing indiscriminately into the ground.
'Everybody started ducking down,' said Kenneth Adams. 'Five minutes later a lot of cops rushed in.'
The suspect then raised his weapon and threatened deputies. That is when a member of HCSO SWAT team shot the suspect.
'It was scary, it scared me,' said Vicky Hance.
The suspect was then transported by Life Flight to a local hospital. He was pronounced dead upon arrival.
The investigation will continue for several hours. The investigation has evolved from a aggravated robbery scene to the scene of a deadly deputy involved shooting. Further investigation will be conducted by the Harris County Sheriff's Homicide Division, Office of Inspector General and the Harris County District Attorney's Office.
The law enforcement officers who opened fire are on administrative leave during the investigation.
