THE COLONY -- A three-year-old was killed Friday afternoon after the boy was ejected from his grandmother's car during an accident.

At about 3:30 p.m. officers responded to the scene in the 7700 block of FM 423 when the child was reported missing.

Police learned the grandmother had lost control of the vehicle, cut across the oncoming lanes of traffic and hit a guardrail. The driver continued a short distance down the road before realizing the three-year-old was missing from the backseat and calling 911.

Officers and firefighters searched the area, found the boy,, and administered medical attention, but he died at the scene, according to The Colony Assistant Police Chief Chris Chandler.

The investigation into the incident is ongoing.
