DALLAS - Police said the death of a 4-month-old girl at a Dallas apartment complex Wednesday morning was likely a tragic accident.

Authorities were called to the Cedar Glen Apartments at about 9 a.m. Wednesday in the 2900 block of E. Kiest Blvd. in Dallas. Police said La-Riah Chandler was found dead inside and showed no obvious signs of trauma.

Dallas police sources said the mother was sleeping with the baby and awoke to find her unresponsive.

When I woke up, I just tickled her feet and she didn't move, said Lateasha Chandler, the child's mother. So, I raised her arm up and it just went right back down. So, I called for help because I didn't know. She wasn't breathing, she didn't move her hands, she didn't do anything.

In the midst of their investigation, police armed themselves with pepperball guns as an upset crowd, including family members who were asked to step back from the crime scene, began arguing with officers at the scene. Tensions eased as more officers arrived at the complex.

Authorities said the death was likely a tragic accident and no arrests were made Wednesday morning.
