PLANO - Police in Plano have arrested two teenage girls for the murder of a 67-year-old man.

Police were called to the 7400 block of Alma Drive after receiving a call that something may have been wrong with Paul Halperin.

When authorities arrived at the apartment, they found Halperin had been beaten to death with a sledgehammer. His body was wrapped in a blood soaked sheet and some of his belongings were missing.

There was property taken, the disclosure of the property we won't release right now, said Officer Andrae Smith, a spokeswoman with the Plano Police Department. The motive seems to be property taken. There maybe something more to that, but were looking at all details.

According to court documents, police got a tip that led them to 18-year-old Shaniqua Shelton and 19-year-old Lakeisha McWay. The two girls were arrested in the Pleasant Grove area of Dallas.

Documents show the victim may have known Shelton, but she was going by the name Hannah.

We did learn the suspects involved in this case were not strangers, Smith said. They were acquaintances. The level of that relationship we don't know.

Police won't say how they met, but court documents state Halperin and Shelton had been seen walking his dog just before the murder.Documents also show Lakeisha McWay's sister is the one who called police.

Court documents state that McWay told her sister she and Shelton had killed Halperin with a sledgehammer.
