Team batting average

A .267 team BA is good for second in the league and best in the division for the Rangers, but rank ninth in slugging percentage. The Athletics and Angels each have more runs scored on the year than Texas.

Despite a pedestrian .249 batting average, the Athletics lead the AL in runs and are fifth in slugging. Seattle has the worst team BA in the American League, just behind Houston, which ranks 14th.

Team ERA

The Athletics lead the American League with a 2.83 ERA. The three teams ahead of Texas in the AL West are all in the top four in the AL in team earned run average.

Texas is last in the American League and second-to-last in MLB (Colorado) with a 4.53 ERA, but still leads the AL by a wide margin with 12 shutouts. The Rangers finished fourth in the AL with a 3.62 team ERA in 2013.

DL stints

The story of the Rangers' injuries has been told time and time again this season. Every starting pitcher that was supposed to be in the Opening Day rotation has missed time due to injury, although Colby Lewis (who didn't make a start until two weeks into the year) wasn't officially on the disabled list this season.

In addition, key relievers Alexi Ogando, Tanner Scheppers and Pedro Figueroa have landed on the disabled list. Joe Saunders, already a 'plan B' option himself has missed time as well.

The 20 DL stints are the most in baseball. Ron Washington isn't one to make excuses, and he shouldn't, but when so many key pieces of the staff have missed time or are sidelined for the year, the 4.53 team ERA shouldn't come as a surprise.
