D/FW AIRPORT -- An American Airlines flight bound for Reagan National Airport in Washington D.C. was forced to return to D/FW International Airport Friday evening after it struck a flock of birds.
American Flight 1188 struck the birds after takeoff just before 7 p.m. and landed safely a short time later.
No one aboard the flight was injured.
The Douglas MD-80 aircraft was inspected by mechanics, who found minor damage to the plane's left engine. The passengers were moved to another plane before going on to Washington. The flight was expected to arrive about two hours behind schedule.
