DALLAS -- A two-alarm fire that damaged two homes in a Far North Dallas neighborhood Friday afternoon began when a young boy was using a lighter to light leaves on fire, Dallas Fire-Rescue spokesman Jason Evans said.

The boy was burning the leaves on the patio of his home in the 3100 block of Renaissance Court near the President George Bush Turnpike around 5 p.m. Friday when the fire got out of control and spread to his house. Firefighters responded as the flames spread towards the roof of the two-story home, but the fire had spread to the house next door.

Eventually firefighters from Dallas and Carrollton were able to bring the blaze under control, but Evans said both homes sustained 'moderate damage.'

No firefighters or residents were injured in the accident.
