DFW AIRPORT The ominous threat of wintry weather led airlines to cancel hundreds of flights into and out of Dallas/Fort Worth International Airport on Sunday.

About 300 departures were 'pre-canceled,' most of them being afternoon and evening flights. The airport said that by being proactive, it helped minimize the number of passengers who might end up stranded overnight.

In all, about one-third of DFW's regular Sunday flight schedule was grounded, and the flights that did take off had go go through a de-icing procedure. That led to some stressful rescheduling for passengers who couldn't fly out or whose connections got disconnected.

American Airlines, the biggest carrier at DFW, said passengers traveling from, to, or through the airport on November 24-25 can reschedule flights through November 26 without the usual penalty.
