DALLAS Dallas police have jailed a 24-year-old woman whose battered toddler son died Wednesday at Medical City Hospital.

On June 26,Franjessica Williams told police she woke up and found her son dead at the bottom of the stairway in her home.According to an arrest affidavit, Williams, 24, brought her son to the hospital where he was declared dead.

An off-duty officer at the hospital called child abuse detectives, who noticed multiple bruises covering the two-year-old s body. Detectives said the child appeared to have had his neck, wrists and feet bound.

Detectives took Williams to the Dallas Children s Advocacy Center where she was interviewed about what happened on June 25.

In the interview, Williams told detectives she spanked, pinched and hit her son with a switch when he would not stop misbehaving. She reportedly said she tried to tie up her son using a scarf, then a belt, and finally some sort of ribbon material.

According to the affidavit, she told investigators his wrists and ankles turned purple.

Williams, who described her son as cocky, told detectives she barricaded him inside a closet where he sat on a metal chair, tied up, facing the wall. She said the child had not eaten all day.

The next morning when she went to check on him in the closet, she said she found him dead, according to the court document.

Williams was charged with injury of a child, a first-degree felony, and is currently being held at the Dallas County Jail on a $150,000 bond. Dallas police spokeswoman Senior Cpl. Sherri Jeffrey said it is possible the charge may be upgraded to capital murder at a future date.

The cause of the child's death is pending an autopsy by the Dallas County Medical Examiner.

Dallas County records show in 2010 Williams was arrested for assaulting an officer. Jeffrey said that case was dismissed.
