SOUTHLAKE - A move into the former Gateway Church in Southlake by Glenn Beck's media company, Mercury Radio Arts, was canceled Tuesday by the company.

Mercury Radio Arts released a statement to News 8 that read in part, Mercury Radio will no longer be exploring purchasing the former Gateway building... We have decided to look for another building that will better suit our television and radio production needs.

The Southlake Planning and Zoning Commission gave the project tentative approval last month, and it had survived a first reading in the Southlake City Council. It would have still required a second reading at the city council.

Neighbors had been concerned about the project last month, but they seemed to reach an agreement with Mercury Radio Arts as well.

A Mercury Radio Arts spokesman told News 8 the neighborhood was not the problem, it was just too expensive to retrofit the church into a production facility.

The company will continue to look in Southlake and the surrounding communities for another facility, which could include Dallas or Fort Worth.
