Devonte Fields is leaving Texas Christian University in the wake of his meeting with university officials Tuesday, according to his Twitter account.

Fields changed his bio on the social media outlet to read 'from TCU to SFA just trying to achieve my goal in life #bottomtothetop.'

Fields, whose Twitter account is private, also tweeted Wednesday 'Just wanted to say thanks to TCU for the opportunity! Anxious to start a new chapter of life at SFA!!' The Fort Worth Star-Telegram's Travis Brown tweeted that he had confirmed with Fields that the tweet is true.

The preseason Big 12 Defensive Player of the Year has been 'separated' from TCU since being accused of hitting and threatening an ex-girlfriend with a gun. He surrendered July 24 on a misdemeanor assault warrant at a Tarrant County jail, and was released on bond.

School officials maintained that Fields was separated from the university after their meeting with the star player Tuesday, and it was reported that it was unlikely he would be allowed to return to the Horned Frogs.

Fields missed most of the 2013 season with an injury after being suspended for the first game of the year. In his freshman campaign, he earned Big 12 Defensive Player of the Year honors from the AP and was voted Big 12 Defensive Freshman of the Year by the league's coaches.
