COLLINCOUNTY --A decision is expected soon on whether a 17-year-old charged with killing his classmate will be tried as an adult.

Adam Staup and Brenden Bridges are charged with killing IvanMejia last year. Last week the judge decided to try Bridges as an adult. He and Staup were 16 years old when the crime was committed.

Several Wylie East High School teachers took the stand Wednesday, describing Staup as a helpful and respectful student.

Staup's Former ROTC instructor said he never witnessed any animosity between Staup and Mejia, who was also in the ROTC.

'We are like a family in ROTC,' he said.

Staup and Bridges are accused of killing Mejia because they wanted to get rid of Bridges' romantic rival.

The judge's decision is expected to come sometime Wednesday.
