HICO, Texas -- Two of the 10 puppies rescued in Springtown after they were left in their cage with their mother, who was shot in the head, have died.
The dogs' former owner, Tammy Douglas, is free on $3,000 bail for allegedly fatally shooting the mother dog and setting her out in a cage with her pups on May 28.
A $5,000 reward will be paid out to the tipster who led police to Douglas, should she be convicted.
The ten puppies, believed to be a shepherd/heeler mix, were taken in by Angels and Outlaws Second Chance Bully Ranch, a dog rescue in Hico.
Rescue owner Jennifer Aikman says the remaining eight are thriving, receiving vet care, and will be available for adoption when they are about three months old. But the deadline to apply to adopt is June 13. All applicants will be screened by the rescue.
So far Aikman has received about 75 applications from as far away as Canada. People still interested in trying to adopt should e-mail Jennifer Aikman at email@example.com.
