SAN ANTONIO -- With the Spurs back in the NBA Finals that means major revenue for businesses throughout the city. The San Antonio Convention and Visitors Bureau tells KENS 5 the proof is in the numbers.
When comparing 2012 (when the Spurs did not make the NBA Finals) to 2013 (when the Spurs hosted 3 games of the finals) the number of hotel rooms booked in downtown San Antonio, on average, increased more than 20 percent.
At Academy Sports and Outdoors it almost feels like the holidays, but instead of red and green everywhere it's silver and black. Academy stores have been selling western conference and finals gear non-stop since this weekend.
Even the smaller and less obvious businesses are getting a piece of the pie. At Pet, Bath and Beyond for $5 your 4-legged friend can get a Spurs doggy tattoo.
'They (pets) like it because any dog that you meet loves attention and this just brings more attention to them,' said Tori Carroll of Pet, Bath and Beyond.
The grooming shop said it's doing about 10 Spurs tattoos a day, definitely an extra boost in sales.
'When the Spurs win, the City wins,' said S.A. Chamber of Commerce President Richard Perez.
Perez said overall the City should generate about $3 million per game during the finals. So a long series may not be so bad after all.
'Me as a fan I want them to win in 4, but me as a business person who is head of the chamber I want them to go to 7 so we can keep that momentum going and keep the excitement here because that means people are focused on San Antonio,' said Perez.
Perez said aside from the millions in revenue, just having all eyes on San Antonio during the Finals has a long lasting benefit and shows the rest of the world San Antonio is a city on the rise.
